promcoming: part 2
Sep. 5th, 2013 06:43 amThe music blares.

Sweeping his eyes around the room, Jean catches sight of his good friends Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover. The recently Facebook official couple are standing hand in hand near the smoke machines, both dressed in clothes that likely haven't fit them since they were in 8th grade. For a moment, Jean considers going over there to see them, but decides to check out his other options first. The last time he'd hung out with them was at a sleepover a week or two ago, where they had gotten up to some business when they thought Jean had fallen asleep. He hadn't, and he wasn't sure how to act around them while he was still processing the fact he had heard Bertholdt shyly calling his boyfriend "sugar puss." That was just too weird of a thing to hear coming out of that guy. Besides, with the mood he was in Jean would probably end up accidentally calling Reiner dad again.

Standing a little ways from the boys Annie Leonhardt. Jean had assumed she wasn't even going to be here, based on the fact that she made a point of declaring that prom was a joke to anyone who spoke to her about it. Yet here she was, all 5'0 of her, looking as aggressively disinterested in her surroundings as ever. Yikes. No way is Jean going over there. His eyes wander, instead, to the dance floor.

In the center of the room prom queen Christa Renz is dancing with her date Ymir. Or rather, Ymir is dancing, sort of, and Christa appears to be tolerating it with a look of embarassment. Everyone knew Ymir had flooded the ballot box during the Prom Court election (due to the fact that she had mistakenly written her name on half her fake ballots and had hastily attempted to scribble it out before turning them in), but even without her false votes Christa won by a landslide. She had also gotten about a million other invitations to prom (including one from Jean, after Marco fell through; he'd figured he might as well give it a shot), but it seemed Christa had her sights set on Ymir, god knows why. Despite the fact that the two of them seem to be having some sort of, uh, moment, Jean briefly considers heading over there to see if the girls want to hang with him for a little bit. He decides better of it, in the end, though, and continues to look around.

A little ways away from those two Jean spots Eren, Mikasa, and Armin. Eren and Mikasa are swinging around pretty gracefully, for two people dancing in a cafeteria full of sweaty teenagers, and Armin stays pretty close to them, doing a dorky little two-step with his bad self. Jean had never actually seen Mikasa smiling as much as she was now.

Ah, Mikasa. There was a time in Jean's life when he wanted nothing more than to be gently cradled in her extraordinarily muscular arms. That ship had sailed, though, and he was over it now. She was sort of his friend, as was Eren, despite their bitter and largely one-sided middle school rivalry which still occasionally resurfaced, and Armin was definitely his friend.
After a little deliberation, Jean makes up his mind. He finishes off his punch and heads over to them.
